NEW YEAR...and NEW ALTERNATIVES!

Image
It’s a new year...well, almost...so why not talk about NEW septic things?  (Technically it’s not really new…but it is new to Nebraska!) Did you know technology exists to clean up your wastewater better than ever?  For years, the main treatment of septic wastewater has been in the tank.  The water drains to the tank first and because it is typically air tight, the bacteria in the tank conduct anaerobic respiration to break down all the nasty stuff that is in the water.  After the tank treatment, the water slowly drains out to your lateral field where the soil performs a final treatment.  In the drainfield, water is either absorbed into the ground or evaporated through the plants (transvaporation). So why would an alternative to this treatment that has worked for years be necessary you ask?  Well, there are several reasons!  As wastewater system installers, we are concerned about the environment.  We want to install systems that do not fail or potentially hurt humans or wildlife

NATIONAL SMART SEPTIC WEEK - Ode to a Septic Business

Image
Bless your heart, you've stuck with me all week reading about septic systems and liquid waste hauling.  You should be commended (or have your head examined...but let's stick with commended).  I will end this week of posts with a short little poem...my Ode to our Septic Business!  Enjoy! ODE to the SEPTIC BUSINESS It’s that busy time of year when the country people start to call Wanting us to pump their tank – their liquid waste to haul We are happy to come and pump, and pump it yes we will But septic-tank-pumping--liquid-waste-hauling isn’t our only skill We offer maintenance programs to keep your system in check We don’t want your laterals to ever be an icky, nasty wreck We will install a riser lid and a tube up to the surface Now you can mark your tank and have a way for us to come and service We also pump out grease traps - if you own a restaurant or a diner We install lagoons, for you to use, complete with septic tank and liner Septic systems

NATIONAL SMART SEPTIC WEEK -- septic system maintenance

I bet you thought you were done reading about septic-related topics, didn't you?!  According to my watch, I still get today and tomorrow, so hold on to your horses! Today I want to talk about septic system maintenance and what all that entails.  Unfortunately, it has been our experience that many people tend to think this about their septic system -- "out of sight, out of mind." Which, I get it, it's easy to do! Nothing says "fun" like contemplating where your poop goes, right? But not being careful when living on septic can lead to some icky disasters... Consider this, your septic system is one of the MOST expensive parts of your home.  Did you know when building a new home, a typical septic system can run between $8,000 - 12,000?  That's a HUGE chunk of change!!  And yet, again, it's the part no one wants to think about.  Flooring, window dressings, kitchen appliances, and floor plans are MUCH more exciting and fun to think about.  I feel

NATIONAL SMART SEPTIC WEEK -- What Do YOU Talk About Every Day?

Day three of our National Smart Septic week...I'm milking this for all it's worth, can you tell? I gotta take what's been given to me! Do you remember the Late Show with David Letterman?   He used to have his TOP TEN LIST poking fun at just about anything.    Ring any bells?   It hit me the other day that I could also make a list of the “most talked about subjects” in the septic business.   I mean, who wouldn’t want to hear what I talk about all day? Am I right? (If you’re still reading, please call me so we can be friends…and maybe find other subjects to talk about…I would LOVE THAT!!) But I digress… If you’ll bear with me….I’ll try to be informative and also remotely entertaining as I share the TOP 5 MOST COMMON QUESTIONS THE SEPTIC LADY TAKES IN A DAY…. NUMBER 5 “I’m backed up, can you come and pump me out?” Who doesn’t love a call like this? Ugh…No one.   I feel sorry for anyone in this situation, but unfortunately these problems do happen.   Most o

NATIONAL SMART SEPTIC WEEK -- Toilet Paper

Image
I figured if I hold tight to the claim NATIONAL SMART SEPTIC WEEK, then that means I can post about septic related topics Monday through Friday, right? So next on my list is the subject of TOILET PAPER. (Sorry, I couldn't resist a little toilet paper meme...) But honestly, don't we all want to talk about toilet paper?  Since you're still reading, I'm going to assume that's a yes... Though toilet paper may seem like a simple item of purchase that has no real effect on your life, it can lead to complicated situations if you live on a septic system.  When you live on septic you want to make sure you are not choosing the wrong kind of toilet paper Seriously?  The wrong toilet paper?  Is there such a thing? Yep. Allow me to explain.  Usually when a customer calls because their system is backing up, much of the time it is due to a clog in their sewer line or baffle area caused by toilet paper.  One of the first questions I ask a customer with this problem
